China Business Development and Strategic Partnerships

Lotus helps international companies turn a China commercial priority into a focused business-development program. We can define the opportunity, identify suitable buyers or partners, begin conversations, qualify the fit and keep promising opportunities moving. When required, we also coordinate proposals, negotiations and selected post-signing relationships within the client’s approved commercial mandate.

Discuss a China Commercial Opportunity

A long contact list is not business development

The value is not in collecting company names. It is in knowing what kind of organization matters, why it may care, who is likely to influence the decision and whether the opportunity deserves more time.

We begin by defining the commercial role the other party would play. That creates a more useful target profile, a clearer reason to engage and a consistent way to qualify the response. It also prevents very different opportunities—such as a potential buyer and a licensing partner—from being pushed through the same process.

The opportunities we can support

Client and buyer development

Identify and develop organizations that may buy the client’s product, service, solution or experience in China. This can include enterprise buyers, institutional clients and other commercial decision-makers.

Distribution and sales-channel partnerships

Find and assess distributors, resellers, channel partners and other organizations that could help bring an offer to market or expand its reach.

Market-rights and operating partnerships

Explore potential licensees, franchisees, local operators and other partners that may take responsibility for defined rights, territories or operating activities.

Brand and strategic collaborations

Develop collaborations where two organizations bring complementary audiences, capabilities, content, products or market access to a shared opportunity.

Sponsorship partnerships

Identify and develop sponsors for an event, program, platform, production or other defined property, with the proposed value exchange made clear before outreach begins.

Technology and ecosystem partnerships

Develop relationships with technology providers, integration partners, platforms and ecosystem participants that could strengthen distribution, delivery or customer value.

The opportunity type is defined by the other party’s commercial role—not by the client’s industry. The same framework can therefore support B2B technology, entertainment, travel, consumer, education, social-impact and other organizations.

What Lotus can take on

Opportunity planning and targeting

Define what the client is trying to develop, the target organization and decision-maker profiles, the qualification criteria, the engagement approach and the information needed before conversations begin.

This stage can be lighter when the client already has a clear, evidence-based target and qualification model. If the opportunity or route to market is still uncertain, China market research or market-entry strategy may be the more useful starting point.

Buyer and partner sourcing

Research organizations against the approved target profile, screen visible fit and build a reasoned shortlist. The aim is a manageable group of relevant candidates, not the largest possible database.

Where useful, we can identify likely functions or contacts within a target organization. Formal due diligence and specialist database or access costs are scoped separately.

Initial outreach and engagement

Prepare the agreed introduction, contact selected organizations and handle the first stage of the commercial conversation. An opportunity may arrive through direct outreach, an introduction or an inbound response.

Lotus can create a disciplined engagement process and a credible opening message. We cannot guarantee that a particular person will respond, agree to a meeting or progress the opportunity.

Opportunity qualification

Assess the candidate against the agreed criteria, which may include need, fit, capability, authority, timing and willingness to progress. Lotus then recommends whether to continue, stop or gather more information.

Finding that a candidate is unsuitable is still a useful result. It protects the client’s time and keeps attention on stronger opportunities.

Opportunity development and follow-up

Maintain routine communication with qualified buyers or partners, coordinate meetings and information, record next actions and help both sides move toward a defined commercial discussion.

The work continues while the opportunity remains active and within the agreed scope. Specialist demonstrations, travel, legal work and substantial new research are handled separately.

Proposal and negotiation coordination

Coordinate the commercial proposal, questions, revisions, internal approvals and negotiation workflow through an agreed endpoint. That endpoint may be proposal submission, agreement on commercial terms or signature.

Lotus works within a written client mandate. The client approves pricing and commercial terms and remains responsible for signing. Qualified legal advisers should draft or review legal agreements where required.

Post-signing commercial relationship management

For selected relationships, Lotus can help track commitments, dates and open items, coordinate routine communication and identify potential renewal or expansion conversations.

This is an optional service rather than an automatic part of every engagement. A major renewal, expansion or renegotiation returns to a separately agreed commercial-development scope. Campaigns, events, content, gifting, commerce and technical implementation are also scoped under the relevant service.

How conversations can begin

Inbound

A potential buyer or partner has already contacted the client or responded to existing market activity. Lotus can help assess the fit and organize the next step.

Introduced

The opportunity comes through the client, Lotus or another trusted connection. An introduction creates access, but the opportunity still needs to be qualified on its commercial merits.

Direct outreach

Lotus approaches selected organizations against an approved target plan and message. The work is focused on relevance and informed engagement, not high-volume unsolicited contact.

How an engagement runs

1. Define the commercial outcome

Agree what the client wants to develop, the role of the other party, the target profile, qualification criteria, scope boundary and decision-makers.

2. Build and approve the target list

Research, screen and explain the strongest candidates. The client approves the shortlist and any important exclusions before outreach.

3. Begin and qualify conversations

Use the agreed route and materials, manage initial responses and determine which opportunities justify further development.

4. Develop active opportunities

Coordinate routine follow-up, meetings, information and next actions. Progress and material risks stay visible to the client.

5. Move to the agreed endpoint

Support proposal and negotiation coordination where commissioned, then close, pause, return or transition the opportunity according to the agreed decision.

Who this service is for

  • International companies looking for enterprise buyers or clients in China
  • Businesses seeking distributors, resellers or other sales-channel partners
  • Organizations exploring licensing, market-rights or operating relationships
  • Brands and properties developing strategic collaborations or sponsorships
  • Technology companies building platform, integration or ecosystem partnerships
  • Teams with promising inbound opportunities but no structured qualification and follow-up process
  • Existing China programs that need an accountable local business-development layer

When this is not the right first step

  • The China opportunity, audience or route to market has not been tested. Start with market research or market-entry strategy.
  • The offer, commercial model or client mandate is too unclear to explain responsibly to another organization.
  • The request is only for an unqualified database of contacts.
  • The client expects guaranteed introductions, meetings, revenue or signed agreements.
  • The work would require regulated brokerage, legal advice or formal due diligence that is outside Lotus’s role.

Responsibilities and boundaries

  • Lotus agrees the target plan, messages and commercial working limits with the client before external engagement.
  • The client provides accurate company, offer, pricing and approval information and identifies who can make commercial decisions.
  • Replies, meetings, proposals and signed agreements cannot be guaranteed.
  • Legal, financial, technical and operational due diligence is separate unless an appropriately qualified specialist is included.
  • Lotus does not provide legal advice. The client and its legal advisers own legal review and signature.
  • Travel, events, specialist access, translation, production and other external costs are confirmed separately where required.
  • Operational delivery after signing—such as campaigns, events, content, commerce, gifting or technical implementation—moves into the relevant Lotus or specialist scope.

Scope and commercial model

The engagement may begin as a project—for example, a targeting plan and shortlist—or continue as a recurring scope across active opportunities. The workload depends on the number and type of opportunities, sourcing depth, access requirements, outreach route, stakeholder complexity, follow-up intensity, proposal stage and agreed endpoint.

Lotus’s service fee covers the defined work. A success fee or ongoing commercial share may be considered for selected opportunities, but it is optional and must be agreed in writing with a clear trigger, calculation method, exclusions and payment timing. It is not a substitute for defining the service work properly.

Frequently asked questions

Can Lotus find buyers or clients for us in China?

Yes, when there is a sufficiently clear offer, target profile and commercial route. Lotus can plan the target, research and screen organizations, begin agreed conversations, qualify the response and develop suitable opportunities. We do not promise that a specific organization will engage or buy.

Can Lotus find a distributor or operating partner?

We can research and develop potential distributors, sales-channel partners, licensees or operators against agreed criteria. Formal legal, financial and operational due diligence remains a separate stage and may require specialist advisers.

Can we work with Lotus only for sourcing and shortlisting?

Yes. Sourcing can be scoped as a focused project. The deliverable is a reasoned shortlist against the approved target profile. Contacting candidates, confirming interest and qualifying the opportunity are separate stages unless included.

Does Lotus make cold outreach?

Direct outreach can be included when it is appropriate to the opportunity and approved by the client. We use a focused target list, an agreed message and a clear reason for contact. Engagement can also begin through inbound interest or a trusted introduction.

Can Lotus negotiate on our behalf?

Lotus can coordinate questions, revisions, meetings and negotiations within a written mandate. The client controls pricing, commercial approvals and signature. Legal terms should be prepared or reviewed by qualified legal advisers.

Does Lotus guarantee meetings or signed deals?

No. We can improve the focus, preparation, consistency and follow-up of the business-development process, but another organization controls whether it responds or proceeds.

What happens after an agreement is signed?

The relationship may return to the client, move into optional commercial relationship management or transition into another delivery scope. Major renewals and expansions are treated as new commercial opportunities. Content, events, campaigns, commerce, gifting and technical work remain separate services.

How is the service priced?

Pricing reflects the planning depth, candidate volume, sourcing method, opportunity type, outreach route, number of active relationships, stakeholder complexity, follow-up requirements and the endpoint Lotus is expected to support. External costs and any optional success-based earning are shown separately.
