China creator marketing
China Influencer and KOL Marketing Agency for International Brands
China's creator market is not one marketplace, and influence does not work the same way everywhere. A Xiaohongshu (RedNote) KOC, a Douyin entertainer, a Bilibili UP creator and a WeChat industry voice can influence completely different decisions. The useful question is not who has the biggest following. It is who your Chinese audience already trusts, what they can say credibly and what should happen after the post.
Selected brands our team has supported
Start with the audience
The right creator is not always the biggest one
Reach matters, but it is only one part of the decision.
We look at who the creator speaks to, how people respond, whether the content feels right for the platform and what the audience should do next. The strongest plan may use one recognised voice, a wider group of KOCs, a steady UGC pipeline or a considered mix of all three.
KOL
Key Opinion Leader
Established creators, public figures and industry voices who can bring reach, authority or cultural attention through their own channels.
KOC
Key Opinion Consumer
Smaller creators and consumers whose content can add useful product experience, community relevance and search visibility.
UGC
User-generated content
Platform native content commissioned for brand channels or paid media. Posting on the creator's own account is agreed separately.
Specialists, artists and IP creators
Experts, performers, musicians, characters and creative communities who bring knowledge, entertainment value or an existing audience relationship.
Choose through the platform
Creator influence works differently across China's digital landscape
A creator who is strong on one platform may be the wrong choice on another.
We plan around the audience behaviour, content format, search habits and commercial tools of each platform.
Xiaohongshu (RedNote)
Useful for search led discovery, comparison and consideration. KOLs and KOCs can share product experience, service explanations, travel ideas and content people want to save.

Follower count and one impressive post do not tell the whole story.
We review the signals that matter for the actual brief, including how the creator works when commercial detail, deadlines and brand requirements enter the picture.
A practical note: No screening process can remove every risk or promise a result. It can make the decision more informed and expose weak assumptions before money is committed.
Commercial planning
Start with the goal and a working budget range
A long creator list is not a plan.
Share the result the brand needs, the audience, the timing and the level of investment under consideration. Lotus can then shape a realistic recommendation covering platforms, creators, UGC, rights, logistics, paid support and management.

Across industries
Where creator marketing can work especially well
Our team works across sectors. Creator marketing becomes especially useful when a brand needs trusted explanation, cultural relevance, a strong demonstration or a story people will choose to watch.
Why cross industry experience matters
A travel idea may sharpen a lifestyle campaign. An entertainment format may unlock a better way to explain technology. That wider view helps us find useful creative routes without forcing brands into the same formula.
Experience behind the work
A China based team for the work behind every post
Lotus is a social first agency for international brands navigating China's distinct digital landscape. Strategy, Chinese content, creator coordination, platform operations and on the ground support sit with one team.
Common questions
China influencer, KOL, KOC and UGC questions from international brands
Clear answers to the commercial and practical questions that usually matter before a creator program begins.
What is the difference between a KOL, KOC and UGC creator in China?
A KOL (Key Opinion Leader) usually brings an established audience, public profile or recognised expertise. A KOC (Key Opinion Consumer) often has a smaller community and contributes useful product experience or search led content. UGC (user-generated content) describes the content and how the brand plans to use it. It may be produced for brand channels or paid media without appearing on the creator's account. The labels can overlap, so Lotus gives every creator and deliverable a clear job.
How much does each influencer cost in China?
There is no responsible single price. Quotes vary by industry, platform, creator profile, follower base, recent performance, format, production difficulty, brief, deliverables, posting commitment, usage rights, exclusivity, revisions, timing and logistics. Lotus requests quotations against a real brief and compares the full value and terms.
What budget should we share with Lotus?
A working range is more useful than a large creator list without commercial context. Tell us the goal, audience, timing and level of investment being considered. We can then recommend which platforms deserve attention and how many KOLs, KOCs or UGC creators the budget could sensibly support.
What is the most effective commercial way to work with Lotus?
For most brands, the most efficient arrangement is to include creator work within a regular China social media program. Share the goal and a budget range, and Lotus can plan the platforms, creator mix, UGC volume, content, rights, local coordination and reporting as one connected scope.
How many influencers should a campaign use?
The number should come after the strategy. One recognised KOL may create attention, while a wider group of KOCs or UGC creators may give the brand more content, learning and search coverage. Lotus recommends the mix based on the audience, platform, budget, timing and desired action.
Are follower numbers the most important selection factor?
No. Follower count can suggest potential reach, but it does not prove audience fit, attention or trust. We also review recent content and performance, comment quality, category relevance, creative ability, commercial history, responsiveness, rights and fit with the brief.
How does Lotus screen creators and suspicious engagement?
We review recent posts rather than one top performing example. Where information is available, we compare viewing and engagement patterns, audience signals, comment relevance, category consistency, past collaborations and official platform data. Screening improves the decision, but it cannot guarantee that every interaction is genuine.
Does UGC include a post on the creator's own account?
Not automatically. UGC can be produced for brand channels, a content library or paid creative testing. If publication on the creator's account is also required, that is priced and agreed as a separate deliverable. The same applies to paid amplification, raw files, editing rights and extended use.
Can we reuse influencer content in paid advertising?
Only when the creator agreement and platform rules allow it. Organic posting rights do not automatically include paid media, editing, raw files or long term use. Lotus defines the intended channels, territory, duration and editing before the final quotation.
Can Lotus manage product seeding in China?
Yes. Our China based team can support creator addresses, sample coordination, local delivery, deadlines and follow up. Gifting alone does not guarantee a post. If content or publication is required, it should be agreed in the commercial scope.
Can a creator guarantee views, engagement or sales?
No responsible creator or agency should promise an organic result that the platform and audience control. We improve the working conditions through careful selection, a stronger brief, practical approvals, platform native content and paid support where appropriate.
How far in advance should we plan?
Structured creator programs need several weeks rather than several days. Sourcing, availability, negotiation, products, content development, rights and approvals all take time. Once Lotus understands the brief, we will provide a realistic schedule.
How should creator performance be measured?
Measurement should follow the creator's job. Awareness may focus on qualified views and viewing time. Consideration may use saves, comments, search behaviour and profile actions. Lead or commerce activity may use enquiries, store visits, conversion or sales where tracking is available.
What should we prepare for the first conversation?
Share the China goal, target audience, timing, working budget range, available brand assets, category, existing Chinese accounts, approval process and required content rights. If some decisions are still open, Lotus can help identify a practical starting point.
